3 Tips for an Awesome LinkedIn Profile

Hello, Mavens!
As a certified career coach I work on a LOT of LinkedIn profiles with clients. Today I'm keeping it short and sweet - and practical! Here are 3 tips for creating an awesome LinkedIn profile that will give you a leg up in your career search - and credibility️ ⚡️⚡️⚡️

TIP #1

Make sure your Headline (profile title) describes what you do AND what you aspire to do. And yes, It can have multiple job titles (you can separate with a line). Do NOT shy away from calling yourself an 'expert' in your field(s). You need to sell yourself and your greatness!️ Most people just put their last job title here and it completely undermines what their talents/capabilities are.

Remember, LinkedIn is picking up key words throughout your entire profile.

It has to be SEO optimized ⚡️⚡️⚡️

TIP #2

In your About section, at the end, add two different sections: Expertise and Industry Experience. List all of your Expertise and Industry in point form. Like good SEO on a webpage, this will make you more likely to show up in people's searches AND it expands on your credibility. For example, here is how I have listed mine:

Expertise: Coaching, Personal Transformation, Personal Development, Graphic Design, Art Direction, Creative Management, Project Management, Digital Solutions, Branding, Marketing, Business Strategy, Strategic Thinking, Public Speaking, Talent Development, Team Engagement.

Industry Experience: Marketing, Design, Media, Fashion/Lifestyle, Beauty, Cosmetics, Retail, Publishing, Packaging, Music, Tech, Business Development, Training, Education, Personal Development, Coaching.

TIP #3

Have at least two current (within the last 6-12 months) Recommendations. Yes, this means soliciting reco's from former colleagues! Nothing looks more stale than a LinkedIn profile with reco's from 2014 (kinda like when you go to someone's blog and nothing has been posted for yearsssssss - no beuno.) Update it for the win, Mavens! These recommendations DO matter and it makes you look committed to your career. Keep it fresh, keep it current and keep it full of positivity.

That’s a wrap for now! Feel free to reach out with your LinkedIn questions!

To your brave success,
Alana
