about alana

My mission is simple:
I love to drive others toward success.

Success can have so many different meanings, and I'm all about harnessing what it means to you and getting you there.

With a career that's spanned from Art Director, Graphic Designer, Project Manager/Branding Expert, and Business Owner, problem-solving is in my DNA.

Combine this with my passion for personal development, and you've got someone who's not just excited about progress and growth but wholeheartedly devoted to it. I'm on a mission to guide people forward, helping them cut through the noise, fear, and hesitation to find clarity and success - on their own terms.

MY STORY

When I was 15, I designed a massive 8-foot flow chart for a business consultant.

Yes, you read that right. 8 feet. I created it with a black Sharpie and ruler on vellum paper, spanning the length of my parent's dining room floor. To be totally honest with you, to this day I have no clue what it was for. What I do remember about this experience is that it taught me how making things complicated is not the answer. No one really understood my (beautifully executed) Venn Diagrams, which kind of defeated the purpose of making them, right? Keeping it simple was the key to taking away confusion, and this sentiment is something I carry with me through my work to this day. Simplify, simplify, simplify!

My career has been a roller coaster.

It didn't take very long for me to dive deeper into the design world. I studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design, where I specialized in packaging design and worked in places that were buzzing with energy but were also insanely stressful. I've worked in-house and client-side, building multi-million dollar brands and owning my design studio. When it comes to the workplace, I've been on both sides of the fence; I've been in corporate environments, and I've also been my own boss. I had good jobs and clients, and then the not-so-great jobs and clients - meaning, I've had my fair share of crying-in-the-car moments and panic attacks that were no joke. The stress I experienced through my work over the years really took a toll on my body and mind, even landing me in the hospital for panic attacks (yep, it got that bad, and burnout was not a good look on me). That said, I've lived through a lot of shitstorms and made it through to the other side, thanks to a whole lot of personal development work and some fantastic coaches.

In case you haven't already guessed, my career isn't what you'd refer to as linear.

While still in the corporate world working as a Creative Manager, I was also a Graphic Design & Marketing instructor at the post-secondary level for over 10 years. As someone who identifies as a learning addict, this role was perfect for me. I was entirely in my element, delivering knowledge and exchanging ideas with students on a level that helped transform their careers and boost their confidence. The classroom, while the same but different from the workplace, taught me the value and power of having the right tools to move forward.

Today, I'm doing what I love: career coaching and freelance designing. I feel gratitude every day for finally finding a career and, more importantly, a way of living that brings me joy.

I want this for you, too.

You're probably here because you feel like there's more out there for you. Yet, along the way, you've found yourself stuck in a bit of a rut. I get it; I've been there and know how difficult it can be to want to make a change or pivot without knowing where to begin. Not to mention feeling that deep sense of dread when perusing other job postings online.

I'm here to help you go from feeling defeated to nailing it in your career and life - in the way that makes the most sense for what you want to achieve.  Whether you want to make a complete 180 or start from scratch, I'm here to be your ally through the process.

My biggest wish is for you to see all the amazing possibilities - not only out there - but also inside of you. There's so much more to you, your career, and your life than you can see right now.

I'm confident that I can help you ditch your struggle and feel empowered and excited about your next steps - even if you have absolutely no idea where you want to go just yet.
